Contemporary Examples

I have been reading a couple of books on the historical development of Alameda lately, largely because I've been researching landfill and land creation for my thesis. But tucked in one of those books I came across this photo:

Porch

Leave aside the goofiness of some of the detailing, and this gives me a good, contemporary example of a glassed-in side porch, on a house one year older than ours, and shows some decent examples of what the railings around the porch roof might have looked like.

It also tells me, in the caption, that herringbone floors were appropriate to the era, which is good because I was going to do herringbone floors anyway and now I can justify that decision. I will not be putting any coat of arms on the ceiling of the dining room. There's only so much authenticity I can handle.
