And Then There Was Stain
Yesterday the contractors stained the floors. I didn't get a good photo because I was busy until after it got too dark, but I went by today to see it, and it's pretty impressive.
One of the things that's most interesting to me is how the herringbone floor catches the light to look like stripes of lighter and darker wood. Once there's a finish on the floor it will not look like this any more (the colour will deepen and the sheen changes), but for now it reminds me of herringbone floors in French chateaux.
The stain will dry over the weekend, and I expect they will be back early next week to apply the finish. It looks like they are using Bona Mega One, which is a one-coat sealer and finish.
I even went upstairs to see the stain up there. The stain was dry enough for me to walk on without getting stain all over my feet. In theory they could have applied finish tomorrow, but it's a weekend and the stain is only going to do better if it has more time to dry out.
